Our Commitment
BlackDistrict is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continuously improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards across both our website and mobile application.
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA for our website, and follow the iOS Human Interface Guidelines and Android Accessibility Guidelines for our mobile app.
Conformance Status
WCAG 2.1 Level AA — Partially Conformant
Core user flows (discovery, search, authentication, and business profiles) meet WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. We are actively remediating remaining gaps noted below.
Accessibility Features
Keyboard Navigation
- All interactive elements are reachable via keyboard
- Visible focus indicators on all focusable elements
- Skip to main content link at the top of every page
- Modals trap focus and close with the Escape key
- Logical, predictable tab order throughout
Color & Contrast
- Text meets WCAG AA 4.5:1 contrast ratio
- Large text meets WCAG AA 3:1 contrast ratio
- UI components and focus indicators meet 3:1 contrast
- Information is not conveyed by color alone
- Sufficient contrast maintained in all interactive states
Screen Reader Support
- Semantic HTML with proper landmark regions
- All images have descriptive alternative text
- Form fields have associated visible labels
- Error messages are announced to assistive technologies
- Dynamic content changes are announced via ARIA live regions
- Interactive elements have descriptive accessible names
Pointer & Touch
- Click targets meet minimum 44×44 px size on mobile
- Hover and focus states clearly differentiated
- No content relies solely on hover interactions
- Touch targets have adequate spacing to prevent mis-taps
Text & Reading
- Page text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content
- Line spacing, letter spacing, and word spacing can be adjusted
- No horizontal scrolling at standard zoom levels
- Content is readable without style sheet support
Mobile App
- All tappable widgets include semantic labels for TalkBack / VoiceOver
- Touch targets meet iOS 44pt and Android 48dp minimum sizes
- Animations respect system Reduce Motion settings
- Dynamic text scaling supported without layout breakage
- Autofill hints on all authentication fields
Known Limitations
Business Listing Form In Progress
Some complex multi-step fields are being updated with improved label associations and error linking.
Map View Planned
Interactive map relies on third-party Google Maps; keyboard and screen reader navigation improvements are planned.
Sponsored Content Labels Planned
Boost / sponsored listing badges will receive explicit ARIA labels in an upcoming release.
How We Test
We test accessibility using a combination of:
- Automated — Lighthouse CI (score ≥ 90) and axe-core in every pull request
- Screen readers — VoiceOver (macOS / iOS) and TalkBack (Android)
- Keyboard-only navigation — tested across all core flows
- Flutter accessibility matchers — touch target and semantic label checks in CI
- Manual review — periodic structured audits against WCAG 2.1 success criteria
