1. Our Mission

BlackDistrict is a business directory dedicated to increasing the visibility and economic opportunity of Black-owned businesses across the United States. Our mission is rooted in economic empowerment and community development — addressing a documented gap in the discoverability of Black-owned enterprises.

2. Open Access

BlackDistrict is open to all users. Anyone — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, age, or disability — may:

We do not restrict access to any consumer-facing feature based on any protected characteristic.

3. Listing Eligibility

The BlackDistrict directory is specifically designed to highlight Black-owned businesses. To qualify for a listing, a business must be at least 51% Black-owned. This criterion exists solely to serve the directory's purpose of supporting the economic visibility of an underserved community.

The "Verified Black-Owned" badge requires ownership documentation and is a factual certification — not a qualitative endorsement of the business.

4. Legal Basis

Directories and platforms that curate businesses by ownership demographics operate within established legal precedent. BlackDistrict functions similarly to minority business directories maintained by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), and numerous state and local economic development agencies.

Our directory does not facilitate discrimination in employment, housing, lending, or public accommodations. We are a discovery tool that helps consumers make informed choices about where to spend their money.

5. Employment

Maison du Code LLC (operating as BlackDistrict) does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

6. Reporting Concerns

If you believe you have experienced discrimination on our platform, please contact us at legal@blackdistrict.org. We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
